PRESS RELEASE: Gifford Releases New TV Ad: Stand for Something

Campaign’s third spot makes optimistic closing argument

August 16, 2018

LOWELL—Rufus Gifford, Democratic candidate for Congress in Massachusetts’ 3rd District, today released a new television ad.

The 30-second ad, titled “Stand for Something,” can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/VnXpN77uMdw

Building on his previous ads, Gifford again strikes an optimistic, hopeful tone. He makes the case to voters that the best way to stand up to the Trump presidency is to stand for something, not just against something.

“American values are under attack by the Trump administration. Everything about them seems to drive wedges between us in each and every way,” Gifford says at the beginning of the ad. “And the Democratic Party has to stand for something, not just against something.”

He continues: “And that’s what we’ve tried to do in this campaign: tear down walls; humanize the work; present a bold, a hopeful, and an aspirational agenda; make people understand we are going to go to Washington and fight for them.”

The ad is a mash-up of iPhone-recorded videos, some of which Gifford recorded himself.

“Stand for Something,” is the third ad that Gifford’s campaign has aired. The campaign began airing “Green Jobs,” in July, which focused on renewable energy and Gifford’s experience as U.S. Ambassador to Denmark. The campaign’s first ad, “Trust,” began airing in June, and focused on restoring trust between people and government, one conversation at a time.
