PRESS RELEASE: Rufus Gifford Statement on UMass Lowell-Boston Globe Poll

Rufus tops first public poll, leading crowded field

April 18, 2018

LOWELL—Rufus Gifford, candidate for Congress in Massachusetts’ 3rd Congressional District, today released the following statement in response to the UMass Lowell/Boston Globe poll, which showed Rufus leading the field of candidates:

“These are exciting and encouraging results. As someone who never thought I’d put my own name on a ballot, to see this groundswell of enthusiasm and support from all corners of the district, it’s amazing, and it’s a testament to the campaign we’re running.

“I am so thrilled for all the volunteers, my campaign staff, and supporters who have had conversations with tens of thousands of voters across the district. That’s the true hard work of any campaign, and I owe them all a debt of gratitude.

“This is a great place to start, but this is only just the beginning. What I’m focused on is building more and more support and continuing to connect with people across the district. We spent the first few months of this campaign getting out there as much as humanly possible, going to all 37 cities and towns in the district, hearing from voters, investing in grassroots organizing, and building genuine human connections. I truly believe we need to bring our democracy back to its purest form, which is the human relationship, and that has guided this people-first campaign.

“We are taking nothing for granted and know there’s many more conversations to be had. I can’t wait for all that is to come.

“It’s becoming more and more clear: people in the 3rd district are hungry for a new generation of political leaders to breathe new life into the system. They want to restore trust back in our politics and government. They want authenticity, they want big, bold, optimistic policies, and they want genuine human connections. That’s the type of representative I want to be, that’s what this campaign is all about, and that’s what I’ll be focused on from now through Election Day.”

The poll is the first public poll in the race. More information can be found here.
