PRESS RELEASE: Additional Fitchburg Leaders Endorse Rufus Gifford for Congress
LOWELL—Rufus Gifford, Democratic candidate for Congress in Massachusetts’ 3rd District, today welcomed endorsements from Michael Kushmerek, President of the Fitchburg City Council, and Thomas Donnelly, Fitchburg City Councilor.
Gifford has earned support from a number of Fitchburg elected officials. He has previously been endorsed by Fitchburg Mayor Stephen DiNatale, State Representative Stephan Hay, and City Councilors Beth Walsh and Amy Green.
“Rufus represents everything that Washington should aspire to be,” said Kushmerek. “He brings civility through public discourse, embraces varying viewpoints, and exudes empathy for his fellow man. Rufus has immersed himself in our community and taken the time to listen and understand Fitchburg’s issues and concerns. He has built meaningful relationships in our region and he’s passionate about bringing change and progress to our district.”
Kushmerek continued: “Fitchburg needs and deserves a candidate who will be unrelenting in his fight to restore faith in the American political system and to make people’s lives better each day. I’m proud to endorse my friend Rufus Gifford for Congress.”
“I’m supporting Rufus because he is the one candidate who I think can get the most done for Fitchburg and the entire district,” said Donnelly. “He has already served at the top levels of federal government and has the experience and perspective a Congressman needs to be successful. Yet he’s also a local guy who cares about all the bread-and-butter issues we face every day on things like jobs and infrastructure. He’ll be the strong and visionary leader we need.”
“I am incredibly grateful to have earned Michael and Tommy’s support,” said Gifford. “They know their city inside-and-out and have worked tirelessly to make their community better off. In Washington, I will always be a partner to them as they continue their great work for the people of Fitchburg.”
