PRESS RELEASE: Sen. Tim Kaine Endorses Rufus Gifford for Congress
July 10, 2018
LOWELL—Rufus Gifford, Democratic candidate for Congress in Massachusetts’ 3rd District, today earned an endorsement from Tim Kaine, U.S. Senator for Virginia and the 2016 Democratic vice presidential nominee.
“I am proud to support my longtime friend Rufus Gifford for Congress,” said Kaine. “His stellar work for President Obama and for our nation as our Ambassador to Denmark shows that he will be an effective progressive voice in a body that badly needs improvement. Rufus worked with me at the Democratic National Committee and his energy, values, and commitment are second to none.”
“Senator Kaine has been an outstanding public servant not just for Virginians, but all Americans,” said Gifford. “I’m humbled and very excited to have his support for our campaign.”
Gifford continued: “Working alongside him at the DNC, we fought to pass the Obama administration’s agenda on everything from the Affordable Care Act to the stimulus plan to repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. A major reason why I’m now running for Congress is to defend all the progress we achieved together under President Obama, and I’m very much looking forward to continuing that work with Senator Kaine.”
This endorsement follows a series of recent national-level endorsements for Gifford, including from Equality PAC and Victory Fund, as well as local-level endorsements, including from Fitchburg Mayor Stephen DiNatale, State Representatives Stephan Hay (D-3rd Worcester) and Jennifer Benson (D-37th Middlesex), and 7 Democratic City and Town Committee Chairs.
